Early Life of Achinta Sheuli

• Achintya Shiuli was born on 24 November 2001 in the Howrah district of West Bengal.

• Achinta has struggled with poverty since childhood. His family lives in Howrah in a mud-walled tin-roofed house.

• Usually, Weightlifters need nutritious food. But, Achinta Shiuli lacked enough nutritious food. At the end of the day, he had to sow paddy to get boiled eggs and ghugni.

• As a child, Achintya loved to play football and cricket like other boys. Achintya came to weightlifting after seeing his elder brother Alak.

• Achintya Shiuli’s father Pratik Sheuli, was a rickshaw van driver by profession, his father died about 9 years ago.

• Achinta was just 11 when her father died of a heart attack at the age of 38.

• His mother Purnima Sheuli, used to work as a lace maker. The weekly earnings were only five hundred rupees.

• With this money they run the family somehow. Even this work was not regular. Achintya Shiuli’s elder brother Alok is a temporary employee of the fire department.

• Achintya Shiuli was never interested in weightlifting, Achintya preferred to play football.

• But one day at the age of 10, while chasing a kite, he saw his brother Alok lifting weights at a local gym. That’s when he saw his brother and was inspired to lift weights.

• Elder brother Alok’s dream was to become a competitive weightlifter, but his father’s sudden death in 2013 shattered his dream as he had to work alongside his mother to support the family.

• Achintya Sheuli has dedicated the gold medal he won at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games to his elder brother Alok.
