In this article  we provide the ” 2022 festival list” of India that are recently celebrated across different regions of India.

List of Indian Festival 2022 in January

➤ The traditional new year of Tibetan Buddhist.
• It is celebrated by the Buddhist Community in the Ladakh region.
• The Losar is a 15 days festival.
• Losar is a Tibetan word which means ‘New Year’.

➤ Losoong/Namsoong Festival ➥Sikkim
• Annually celebrated across the Indian State of Sikkim.
• Losoong festival is celebrated as Sonam Losoong, by the Sikkimese Bhutia and as Namsoong by the Lepchas.
• It marks the beginning of the harvest season.
• The Namsoong festival begins on the 1st day of the new moon phase Kurneet Lovo.

• The 9th edition of the North East Festival was held in Guwahati, Assam.
• The Festival was inaugurated by Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam.

Cherry Blossom Festival 2021 ➥ Shillong, Meghalaya
• The Cherry Blossom Festival 2021 inaugurated by Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma and Ambassador of Japan to India, Satoshi Suzuki.

• The festival is held in two venues, Ward’s Lake and Polo Grounds in Meghalaya.

First ever Aharbal Festival ➥ Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir
• The Kulgam district administration and the Department of Tourism, Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) organised the first ever Aharbal Festival at Kulgam, J&K to promote tourism in Kashmir, particularly at the Aharbal waterfall.

Aharbal falls, also known as “Niagara Falls” of Kashmir.
• It is a hill station in the south-western part of Kashmir Valley in the Jammu and Kashmir(J&K).

Boita Bandana’ Festival ➥ Odisha
• Boita Bandana also known as Danga Bhasa , is a traditional Odia maritime and naval festival celebrated annually throughout Odisha, India.

• Boita Bandana takes place in the early morning of Kartik Purnima.
• A major commemoration of this festival called Bali Jatra is held at Gadagadia Ghata of Cuttack on the banks of Mahanadi river

Wangala – “the festival of 100 Drums” ➥ Meghalaya
• Meghalaya state observed the ‘Wangala’, the festival of 100 Drums Festival
• It is an annual post-harvest festival of the Garos tribe of Meghalaya
• Main deity of this festival is ‘Saljong’, the Sun God of Garos.

National Tribal Dance Festival 2021’ ➥ Chhattisgarh
• Chief Minister (CM) of Jharkhand Hemant Soren and CM of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated 2nd National Tribal Dance Festival 2021
• It was held at Raipur’s Science College ground as a part of the tourism development plan of the stat.

Global FinTech Festival (GFF) 2021 ➥ India
• The Global FinTech Festival (GFF) 2021 is organized by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Fintech Convergence Council (FCC) and Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) along with Payments Council of India (PCI).

• Theme of Festival: ‘FinTech: Empowering a Global Digital Economy’

➤ Bathukamma ➥ Telangana
• The festival Bathukamma is a part of Dasara festivities.
• It is a traditional Hindu festival celebrated predominantly in the state of Telangana and in some parts of Andhra Pradesh.

• As per Shathavahana calendar the Bathukamma festival is annually celebrated for nine days starting on Bhadrapada Pournami also known as Mahalaya Amavasya and concludes on Durgashtami.

 Nomadic Festival ➥ Ladakh
• First Ladakh Nomadic Festival in Ladakh inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) Radha Krishna (RK) Mathur.

• It is mainly celebrated in the region of Changthang at Korzok Phu, Ladakh.

• This festival celebrated to showcase the unexposed lifestyle and culture of the nomads of the eastern most Changthang plateau of Ladakh.

Solung Festival ➥ Arunachal Pradesh
• ‘Solung’ is a harvest festival performed after sowing of seeds and transplantation, to seek future bumper crops.

• It is a 5 day long popular festival of Adi Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh.
• The first day of ‘Solung’ is called, ‘Solung-Gidi Dogin’ or the day of preparations.

• The second and the main day of the festival is called Doreph-Long or the day of animal sacrifice.

• The third day is ‘Binnayat Binam’ or worshipping the goddess of plenty and prosperity.

• The fourth day is Yaktor of Ekoph when the villagers remain busy preparing bows and arrows and other weapons of war.

• On the fifth day, the Miri (religious leader or priest) is given a ceremonial send-off when the girls sing and dance.

Bail Pola Festival 2021 ➥ Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh
• The Bail Pola Festival is a thanksgiving ceremony in which the farmers of  Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh including Maharashtra, Telangana and Karnataka   give thanks to the bulls and oxen for their contribution to agricultural and farming activities.

• This day falls on Kushopatini Amavasya, on the full moon day of the month of Shravana.

• On this day, the demon Polasur was killed by Lord Krishna when he was a child. And this day is dedicated to paying respect to animals and children.

Nuakhai ➥ Odisha
• Nuakhai, the harvest festival celebrated in the Sambalpur region of Odisha.

• The festival is celebrated on Bhadraba Shuklapakhya Panchami tithi, the next day of Ganesh Chaturthi.

• The literal meaning of Nuakhai is ‘Nua’ means New and ‘khai’ means eating.

• In this festival the new harvest crops are worshipped.
• The people of Odisha particularly Sambalpur celebrate it by eating the first rice of the harvest together with their family.

Nata-Sankirtana ➥ Imphal, Manipur
• It is a 3-day long dance and music festival of Imphal.
• The festival of organized by The Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy(JNMDA).

Aadi Pooram festival  ➥ Tamil Nadu
• Aadi Pooram festival is a prime festival of Tamil Nadu.
• It is also known as Aandal Jayanti.
• The festival marks the birth of Andal Ammal.
• Tamilians beliefs Andal Ammal as the incarnation of Goddess Shakti.
• The festival celebrated in the Adi month (July – August) as per the Tamil calendar.

Onam ➥ Kerala
• Onam is a Hindu festival of Kerala.
• It marks the first month of the Malayalam calendar, known as Chingam.
• Onam festival dedicated to the Vamana avatar of Vishnu.

Harela festival ➥ Uttarakhand

Harela means “Day of Green”.

Raja Parba or Mithuna Sankranti ➥ Odisha
◘ Raja Praba festival dedicated to Mother Earth (Bhuma Devi).

◘ This is a three day long festival . Each day has its own significance.
• The first day of the festival is called Pahili Raja
• The second is Mithuna Sankranti
• and the third or last day known as Bhu daha or Basi Raja.

◘ The day before the day of Pahili Raja known as ‘Sajabaja’.

Poson Poya ➥ Sri Lank
◘ It is an annual festival of Sri Lankan.
◘ The festival is celebrated by the Buddhists peoples of Srilanka.
Poson Poya festival held on the full moon day of June. (Poya means Full moon).

Vesak day ➥ Buddhist people of Bhutan, China, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Tibet
• It is an international holiday recognized by the United Nations Organisation.
• Vesak Day is celebrated worldwide by the followers of Buddhism.
• This festival is celebrated in different countries like Bhutan, China, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Tibet.

“The eclipse and after” festival ➥ India, by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting
• It is a unique film festival in which a series of women-centric documentary films showcased.
• A total of 10 films will be screened at the festival.

National Tribal Festival – Aadi Mahotsav 2021
◘ Inaugurated by  Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, at New Delhi

Kanchoth Festival
◘ The ancient Kanchoth festival, a symbol of ancient Nag culture, was observed with religious fervour and gaiety across Chenab valley region of Jammu and Kashmir.

◘ The festival is celebrated by locals, mainly Nag followers who believe that on this day of Gouri Tritiya, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married and the latter insisted on a throne made of snow as her wedding gift.

Mandu Festival
◘ The three-day long   “Mandu Festival” began at the historic town of Mandu in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh.

 This festival showcase each and every aspect of the ancient Mandu city, ranging from food, music, history & heritage, art & craft etc.


47th Khajuraho Dance Festival

Bihar’s 1st state level bird festival named –‘Kalrav’
◘ Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar has inaugurated the first-ever bird festival of the state, ‘Kalrav’, at Nagi-Nakti bird sanctuary, located in Jamui district.

◘ The festival was celebrated to create awareness among people about birds, especially the migratory birds.
