The FIFA World Cup is an international association football competition contested by the senior men’s national teams of the members of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

The FIFA World Cup is held every four years. This tournament was first held in 1930. No World Cup was held in 1942 and 1946 due to World War II.

FIFA World Cup 2022 Host

Qatar is the host country for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. After almost 20 years, the FIFA World Cup was organized again in an Asian country.

• The last FIFA World Cup was held in Asia in 2002. Japan and South Korea hosted the FIFA World Cup that year.

FIFA World Cup 2022 Venue

• A total of 8 stadiums in Qatar will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. All stadiums are air-conditioned to protect the players from the unbearable heat of Qatar.

• The most used stadium is the iconic Lucille Stadium, where 10 matches, including the final, will be played.

Nine matches will be played at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, located within a 20-mile (32 km) radius of central Doha.

The 2022 FIFA world cup mascot’s name

• The official mascot of the FIFA World Cup 2022 was unveiled on 1 April 2022.

• Its name of the mascot is La’eeb, which is an Arabic word meaning “super-skilled player”.

• The official website of FIFA says: “Laʼeeb will be known for his youthful spirit; spreading joy and confidence everywhere he goes”.

The word 'mascot' originates from the French term 'mascotte' which means lucky charm. This was used to describe anything that brought luck to a household. 

2022 FIFA world cup official match ball

• The official match ball for the 2022 FIFA World Cup was “Al Rihla”, unveiled by Adidas on 30 March 2022.

• It was largely inspired by Qatar’s culture, architecture, iconic boats, and flag. In Arabic, the word Al Rihla means “the journey”.

• Rihla is also a traditional genre of Arabic literature about travel, such as Ibn Battuta’s 14th-century travelogue, known simply as Rihla.

• The most interesting thing about the Adidas ball is that it has internal electronic sensors, which allow it to detect its speed and position.

• The built-in sensor can send data 500 times per second. The 14g battery attached to this sensor needs to be charged before each game.

• FIFA has introduced a new match ball for the semi-finals, third-place, and final matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup

• The name of the new ball is ‘Al Hilm’ (Dream in Arabic). The last three matches were played with this ball instead of ‘Al Rihla’ (The Journey).
