A little Description about the International Boundaries
◘ Radcliffe Line
• The Radcliffe Line was the boundary demarcation line between the India and Pakistan (including East Pakistan or Bangladesh).
• It was named after its architect, Sir Cyril Radcliffe. • Sir Cyril Radcliffe is the joint chairman of the two boundary commissions.
• The demarcation line was published on 17 August 1947 upon the Partition of India.
• Today its western side serves as the Indo-Pakistan border.
• And the eastern side serves as the India-Bangladesh border.
• Length of the border between India and Pakistan is 3323Km.
• Length of the border between India and Bangladesh is 4096Km.
◘ LOC (Line of Control)
• The Line of Control (LoC) is a military control line between the Indian and Pakistan.
• Line of Control serves as the de facto border.
• It was established as part of the Simla Agreement at the end of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.
• The northernmost point of the Line of Control is known as NJ9842.
• To the south of the Line of Control lies the border between Pakistani Punjab and the Jammu province.
◘ McMahon Line
• The McMahon Line is the boundary between China and India.
• It was established as part of the 1914 Simla Convention.
• The line is named after Henry McMahon.
• Henry McMahon was the foreign secretary of British India and the chief British negotiator of the conference at Simla.
◘ LAC (Line of Actual Control)
• The Line of Actual Control (LAC) is a notional demarcation line between Indian and Chinna.
• The term is said to have been used by Zhou Enlai in a 1959 letter to Jawaharlal Nehru.
• The LAC is generally divided into three sectors.
◘ Durand Line
• The Durand Lineis the international land border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
•Delimited by Sir Mortimer Durand with the agreement of the erstwhile Amir of Afghanistan in 1893.
◘ Mannerheim Line Russia and Finland
• It was a defensive fortification line on the Karelian Isthmus built by Finland against the Soviet Union.
• It was named after the Field Marshal Baron Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim.
◘ Maginot Line
• The Maginot Line. a french defense line built by France in the 1930s along the border of Germany.
• The Maginot Line named after the French Minister of War André Maginot.
• It was built by Paul Painleve.
◘ Hindenburg Line / Siegfried Line
• It was the last line of German defenses on the Western Front and France.
• Hindenburg Line built by Germany during the first World War.
• The Line built in the year 1916.
• It was named by the British for the German commander in chief, Paul von Hindenburg.
• The Hindenburg Line was known to the Germans as the Siegfried Line.
◘ Oder-Neisse Line
• The Oder–Neisse line is the international border between Germany and Poland.
• It runs mainly along the Oder and Lusatian Neisse rivers and meets the Baltic Sea.
• The Oder–Neisse line marked the border between East Germany and Poland from 1950 to 1990.
• After the revolutions of 1989, newly reunified Germany and Poland accepted the line as their border in the 1990 German–Polish Border Treaty.
