Iga Swiatek withdrawn from Billie Jean King Cup final, criticizes WTA, ITF

World no. 1 Women's tennis player Iga Swiatek has withdrawn from the Billie Jean King Cup final in Glasgow.

The reason behind this decision is the unsafe tennis calendar of WTA and ITF.

This year the WTA Finals scheduled to be held in Fort Worth, Texas between October 31 and November 07.

Iga Swiatek, who has won two Grand Slam titles this year, is set to compete in the WTA Finals.

On the other hand, the Billie Jean King Cup Final will start in Glasgow, from 8 November to 13 November 2022.

Swetek helped Poland qualify for the Billie Jean King Cup final earlier this year, saying her aim is to represent in Glasgow.

But he felt that flying directly to Glasgow from the US, changing time zones and dealing with jet lag could endanger her health.

She criticized the WTA and ITF for their "failure" to agree to make a "safe tennis calendar."

She further said, "this situation is not safe for our health and can cause injuries. I am going to talk to the WTA and the ITF to make some changes".
