Every year the National Civil Service Day is celebrated on  21 April.

The first National Civil Service Day function was held in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on April 21, 2006.

The day is dedicated to civil servants of India for their contribution to the public administration.

The day is celebrated as the country’s first home minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel addressed the newly appointed Administrative Services Officers in 1947.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel  referred to the civil servants as the ‘steel frame of India’.

Freedom fighter Sardar Patel is known for uniting 562 princely states of Modern India to build the Republic of India.

On National Civil Service Day, the Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration are also presented.
