West Bengal Launches Program to End Lymphatic Filariasis by 2027

The government of West Bengal is launching a program to get rid of a disease called Lymphatic Filariasis by 2027.

Elephantiasis, also known as lymphatic filariasis, is a neglected tropical disease caused by filarial parasites transmitted to humans through mosquito bites.

The government of West Bengal has begun a widespread distribution of drugs to combat Lymphatic Filariasis in five districts.

The elimination drive against lymphatic filariasis has been introduced in Bankura, Purulia, West Burdwan, Birbhum, and Murshidabad.

It aims to improve the health of its citizens by getting rid of diseases such as lymphatic filariasis, which are spread by mosquitoes.
The health department will employ a treatment called double drug therapy to achieve their goal.
During the specified period, health workers who have received training will visit every household in these five districts .....
and provide anti-filarial medication to everyone except for children under two years of age, pregnant women, and individuals who are seriously ill.
The state previously had 35,631 patients with a condition called lymphoedema and 13,846 with hydrocele.
