The first Vande Bharat Express was manufactured in 18 months at the cost of ₹97 crore.

The service was renamed as 'Vande Bharat Express' on 27 January 2019 and the train was launched on 15 February 2019.

A Senior official stated that the railways plan to export Vande Bharat trains by 2025 or 2026.
