World Heritage Day also known as the International Day for Monuments and Sites.

Each year World Heritage Day is commemorated on April 18.

In 2022 the  World Heritage Day will fall on Monday.

The day was first observed in 1983 by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). 

It gained recognition as a world event during the 22nd General Conference of UNESCO.

This day is celebrated to spread awareness about preserving the history, diversity, and vulnerability of world heritage sites and monuments.

The theme for World Heritage Day 2021 is"Complex Pasts: Diverse Futures."

The theme for World Heritage Day 2022 is "Heritage and Climate". 

UNESCO has designated total of 1155 monuments in 167 countries as UNESCO world heritage sites.

In India, there are 40 World Heritage Sites designated by UNESCO.
