March 2025

• Indira Gandhi International Airport (New Delhi) is now the 8th busiest airport in the world, according to a 2025 report.

• Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has won the 2024 Airport Service Quality Award for being the best airport in Asia-Pacific (for airports with over 40 million passengers).
  • This award was given by Airports Council International (ACI) and Amadeus.

• Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed an agreement with:
  • BluJ Aerospace Private Limited
  • Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT)
  • Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL)
  • Their goal is to create the world’s first hydrogen-powered flying vehicle system called VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing).

• IndiGo Airlines is now the second fastest-growing airline in the world in terms of seat capacity, after Qatar Airways.

February 2025

• Datia has officially become Madhya Pradesh’s eighth airport after receiving a licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

• As per IATA’s latest report (2024), India’s domestic flights recorded the highest passenger load factor (86.4%) globally, surpassing the US (84.1%) and China (83.2%).

• The Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced the launch of Udaan Yatri Cafe, an affordable eatery outlet, at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.

• Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, Indore, has become India’s first zero-waste airport with a 3000 sq. ft. material recovery facility.

• India’s IndiGo Airlines ranked 103rd out of 109 in the 2024 AirHelp Score report, while Brussels Airlines topped the list.

March 2024

• The Civil Aviation Research Organization (CARO) center has been set up at Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad, by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). This center aims to upgrade and enhance Research and Development (R&D) activities in the civil aviation sector.

• A new double-lane road has been constructed to provide connectivity from Donyi-Polo Airport to Naharlagun Railway Station, improving access and transportation efficiency between these two crucial points.

February 2024

• The Government of India has declared Surat Airport in Gujarat as an ‘International Airport.’ It is developed and operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

• The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has granted in-principle approval for the installation of the statue of Adiyogi Shiva near the Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. The total height of the statue will be 242 feet.

• Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) has recently signed an MoU with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for setting up a green hydrogen plant on the premises of Cochin Airport.

• The foundation stone for the new terminal building at Jammu Airport has been laid. The new terminal will be spread over an area of 40,000 square meters and will be equipped with modern facilities, catering to about 2,000 passengers during peak hours.

January 2024

• Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad has secured the 2nd rank in the global airports as well as large airports categories in 2023, according to the recent report by Cirium, based on operational performance and punctuality.

• The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal to declare Ayodhya Airport as an International Airport, naming it “Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhyadham.” This name pays homage to Maharishi Valmiki, the sage who composed the epic Ramayana.

• Wings India 2024 will be held at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad. The theme for the event is “Connecting India to the World in Amrit Kaal: Setting the Stage for Indian Civil Aviation @2047.”

• Malkangiri Airport has recently been inaugurated in the state of Odisha.
