Joka-Taratala Metro Route, Fare, Time: Latest Updates

The Joka Metro route, also known as the Kolkata Metro Purple Line, commenced operations last year. Constructed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), it runs between Joka and Taratala. Initially proposed 12 years ago, the project faced numerous delays before its eventual launch. The Joka Metro was inaugurated in December 2022, spanning a 6.5 km distance. The project incurred a total cost of Rs 1350 crore. Currently, construction continues on the metro line, which upon completion, will stretch from Diamond Park to Esplanade in Kolkata.

The Joka Metro route, also known as the Kolkata Metro Line 3 or the Purple Line, spans 15.08 kilometres from Joka in the south, to Esplanade in the north. The 6.5 kilometres stretch from Joka to Taratala was inaugurated on 30 December 2022. The route was extended to Majerhat on 6 March 2024. The metro line is expected to be further extended towards IIM Calcutta and Diamond Park.

There are a total of 12 metro stations on the Joka-Esplanade Metro route, including the Joka and Esplanade Metro Stations. Among these 12 stations, 6 stations from Joka to Taratala are functional, while the remaining stations from Majerhat to Esplanade are under construction.
