- Smart Grid Index 2024: Tata Power-DDL ranked among the top 10 global power utilities in the Smart Grid Index (SGI) 2024, developed by Singapore Power Group (SP Group).
January 2025
- 🇷🇺 Russia’s state-run atomic agency shipped the VVER-1000 reactor vessel for the sixth unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu, India.
- ⚡ China Energy Engineering Group Co. Ltd. (CEEC) completed the world’s first 300 MW compressed air energy storage (CAES) project “Nengchu-1” in Hubei, China, now fully operational.
- 🇳🇵 IREDA finalized a Joint Venture Agreement with SJVN Ltd., GMR Energy Ltd., and Nepal Electricity Authority for the 900 MW Upper Karnali Hydro-electric Project in Nepal.
- ☀️ Uttar Pradesh approved solar power projects worth ₹10,000 crore to achieve a renewable energy capacity of 22,000 MW.
- 💰 Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC) signed a ₹6,600 crore loan agreement with Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC, Tokyo) to support renewable energy projects in India.
October- December 2024
- NLC India Limited (NLCIL) partnered with UPRVUNL to commence commercial operations of the first unit of 3×660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant (GTPP) in Uttar Pradesh.
- NTPC Limited, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), has developed a catalyst to produce methanol using gases emitted from fossil-fired power plants.
- Reliance Enterprises recently collaborated with Druk Holding and Investments Ltd (DHI), the commercial arm of Bhutan’s government, to develop a 1,270 MW solar and hydroelectric power project in Bhutan.
- First, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) will operate 220 MW small nuclear plants with funding and land provided by private players.
- The Union Ministry of Power launched the National Electricity Plan (Transmission) to achieve 500 GW of Renewable Energy Installed Capacity by 2030 and over 600 GW by 2032, developed by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
- According to the Renewable Energy and Jobs – Annual Review 2024 report, 347 gigawatts (GW) of photovoltaic (PV) capacity were added globally in 2023.
August – September 2024
- The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, the Arab world’s first nuclear power plant, is located in Al Dhafra, Emirate of Abu Dhabi, UAE.
- In the field of nuclear energy, Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) have signed an MoU for the operation and maintenance of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.
- China recently planned to build the world’s first Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) fueled by molten thorium salt liquid fuel.
- Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) received the first-ever order to demonstrate methanol firing in a Gas Turbine at the 350-MW Kayamkulam Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) in Kerala.
- BHEL secured three major contracts worth Rs 11,000 crore from Adani Power Ltd and its subsidiary Mahan Energen Ltd to supply equipment and oversee the erection and commissioning of three supercritical thermal power plant projects in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
July 2024
- Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged a Rs 13,300 crore order to set up a 1600 MW (2X800MW) thermal power plant in Koderma, Jharkhand, from Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).
- Asian Development Bank (ADB) has partnered with the ENGIE group to build a 400-megawatt solar photovoltaic power plant in Gujarat.
- Tata Power Solar Systems Limited has launched the ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ initiative in Uttar Pradesh, aimed at providing every home with clean energy through rooftop solar solutions.
- Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank) has signed an agreement with Guyana to provide an India-supported Line of Credit (LoC) of USD 2.50 million for installing a solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant.
- China has unveiled the world’s first dual-tower solar thermal power plant, which utilises an innovative design to significantly improve energy efficiency.
- Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) is set to invest approximately Rs 290 crore in the Upper Karnali Hydro-Electric Power Project.
- Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs has inaugurated the National Feeder Monitoring System (NFMS) Control Centre at Gurugram.
