The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative, aimed at improving the overall experience for users of the national highway system.
Key Points of the Initiative
Mandatory Transition
Under this initiative, users with multiple FASTags or those linked to a specific vehicle are required to discontinue earlier FASTags issued by their respective banks.
Deactivation of Previous FASTags
All previous FASTags will be deactivated or blacklisted after January 31, 2024, even if they still have a valid balance. This ensures that only the latest FASTag remains active.
KYC Process Implementation
FASTag users must register the most recent FASTag by completing the ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) process, aligning with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.

Reasons Behind the Initiative
Addressing Violations
NHAI initiated this step in response to reports of violations, such as the issuance of multiple FASTags for a single vehicle and the distribution of FASTags without complying with RBI’s KYC mandate.
